Three checks before choosing your captain
This is a selection checklist, not a confirmed team for today. The 2× and 1.5× reference below comes from the published Dream11 points system; do not assume RS9 or another lobby uses identical rules. Check the match format, scoring and deadline in the contest you actually open.
Before the toss: build a shortlist
Write down two or three options using expected batting position, bowling opportunity and recent role. A high score in the previous match is not enough on its own. Mark any unconfirmed role as uncertain.
After the announced XI: confirm availability
Check the official team announcement. Do not lock C/VC from a predicted XI or a forwarded team image alone. If the name, role or availability is unclear, pause the choice and check the source again.
Before team lock: recheck both selections
Check the match, deadline, selected players and C/VC badges in the contest lobby. If rain, a changed batting order or fewer overs undermine your original reasoning, write down why you changed it. No selection guarantees a win.

Compare actual roles and opportunities: a top-order batter, a bowler with a regular allocation and an all-rounder with a limited role are different choices. A team's real-world captain is not automatically the best fantasy captain.
C and VC can come from different roles, but that is not a fixed rule. If both depend on the same uncertain match condition, record that risk; choosing two different names does not remove it.
